TN Bat Working Group 2024 Annual Meeting
Dec 12, 2024
We held our annual meeting this year in Murfreesboro, TN. It was our 20th year celebration as a group. Steve Samoray provided us with a history lesson on how we got here and what we have accomplished. We had 6 student presenters! We awarded 2 student awards. We had students from 4 universities in attendance. Bat rehab was recently legalized in TN, so we had representatives from licensed rehabbers. We had a musician, Robbie Hunsinger, give a bat-inspired music demonstration using real bat echolocation calls. We had 100+ participants that attended in person or virtually. We beat our record for the meeting with the most attendance! Thank you to all the members of the working group for your part in bat conservation!

TN Bat Working Group 2024 Bat Blitz
Oct 2, 2024
We held our TN Bat Working Group Bat Blitz this year at sites near Chickasaw State Park in western TN on August 19-20, 2024. This was an area of the state where we were lacking bat distribution data. We had 50 volunteers travel to assist with our bat surveys. We captured 268 bats of 6 species including the eastern red bat, big brown bat, evening bat, tricolored bat, southeastern myotis, and the Raffinesque big-eared bat. Participants had lots of opportunities to network, share batty experiences, and learn bat survey techniques. We look forward to doing it again next summer!
